NOVEMBER 22 NEWSLETTER

This month we share the incredible figures Victoria's Spring Racing season sees and chat with SOR Alumni Jamie on how he is preparing his store for the busy period.

In the last week at School of Retail we’ve had more than 150 emails relating to Black Friday all with some call to action. It’s fair to say ‘It’s a good time to shop’!

Given that 25% of Xmas shopping will be done in this period it’s also a good time to gauge if you are delivering the customer experience you want to be famous - a dress rehearsal of sorts.

Research from the Australian Retailers (ARA) in collaboration with Roy Morgan forecast sales to reach a record $6.2 billion over the four-day Black Friday to Cyber Monday weekend. That’s an increase of $200 million on 2021.

But we’re not on a level playing field. In the last 2 years most Australians were coming out of lockdowns so pent up demand attributed to high spend. Ahead the ANZ expects a slowdown in household spending through 2023, as the full impact of RBA rate hikes flow through.

Our message at School of Retail stays the same.

To prepare for these peaks in trade ask yourself 3 questions.

1. Does my team have the right skill and will?
2. Are my customers happy?
3. Am I happy with our results?

If the answer is no to any of these questions, we’re here to help.
